Thousands of employees ensure smooth operations every day and face the challenges of a highly complex, dynamic environment. 

In addition to day-to-day operations, the operator, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB for short), places a strong focus on topics such as customer service, digitalization of processes in the terminals and on the apron as well as sustainability in order to further develop BER Airport innovatively and efficiently and to provide travelers with a comfortable experience. This requires a sustainable corporate culture and managers who are constantly optimizing themselves and their teams.

The challenge

The range of tasks performed by FBB's approximately 2,000 employees is extremely diverse, with hardly any two job profiles being the same. The company's personnel development aims to continuously develop and expand the skills of its employees in order to meet the requirements of their respective fields of activity.

The demands on managers are just as varied as the tasks. They are responsible for leading their teams efficiently, actively shaping change processes and managing and tracking the achievement of strategic goals. In addition to traditional management tasks, key aspects of their work include supporting change processes, dealing with crisis situations and promoting a constructive feedback and error culture. Good teamwork is also necessary between managers in order to work towards strategic goals and focus topics.

In order to meet this role expectation, FBB managers have had various development measures and management tools at their disposal for several years. In order to ensure targeted and sustainable support, FBB relies on a customized digital coaching solution that can be flexibly integrated into everyday working life and enables continuous support.

 

The solution

In close cooperation with FBB's Learning & Development team, our digital coaching solution was integrated into the existing development program. The focus was on a structured, practical and flexible approach that meets FBB's requirements for needs-based management development:

  • Each participating manager received individual coaching sessions with experienced business coaches to work specifically on personal challenges and development goals.

  • Thanks to the practical and specially selected focus topics of the coachees, they were able to transfer what they had learned directly into their day-to-day work.

  • The complete digital implementation enabled flexible use, so that the coaching could be easily integrated into the managers' demanding everyday lives.
